The Orange Peel is known for showcasing the best of local music and well-known musicians, including Bob Dylan and a 10-night visit by the Smashing Pumpkins.
The Orange Peel: Social Aid and Pleasure Club, for those who are not familiar, is often considered Asheville’s hottest music venue.
The venue itself has a main open area for dancing, plus
some seating in the back for those who need a break. The building has been set up with some great acoustics, so even picky ears are likely to be happy with the sound. There is also a fully stocked bar (beer and wine, including great local brews on tap) that runs the entire length of the room with several pay stations for quick transactions.

Asheville, NC is full of great festivals throughout the spring, summer, and fall. I have been looking forward to attending LEAF festival for the past few years but haven’t been able to make it yet. This artsy festival usually happens twice a year, in May and October. This fall it is scheduled for October 19-21. This festival is full of arts, crafts, performance, community outreach, camping etc. etc.
Be sure to check it out this October 19-21, 2007 in Black Mountain, NC. I will report back to let you know about my finding!

Every Saturday from 7-10PM, Martin Luther King, Jr. Park is transformed into mountain music venue. Musicians and entertainers from the surrounding counties are invited to come out and work their magic while you enjoy a picnic dinner or refreshments from the food tents.
Each performer is only allowed two numbers, so the most enjoyable part of the evening are the jam groups that loosley form after the main performance has ended. This is a great event for all ages and the best part is it’s free!!

Hello all music lovers! Dark Star Orchestra is traveling to The Orange Peel (101 Biltmore Avenue : 828.225.5851) in Asheville, NC. DSO is an amazing Grateful Dead cover band. They travel around the globe playing the same shows the Dead performed years ago—each gig they pick a date from the Dead’s actual shows and play the exact setlist with segues, occasionally throwing in the same stage banter. Their jamming is extraordinary and makes you feel like you are experiencing a true Dead show. For those of you who were born in the wrong generation and unable to make a Dead show, check out DSO February 9, 2007.
